The unconventional shape of this walnut kitchen island top was the idea of the homeowners. Leaving one end of the top narrow
allows for more space between the cabinets one one side and the refrigerator on the other. The top measures 60" long,
22" wide at the narrow end and 36" wide on the round end. The island base is only 6" wide. The curved moldings
around the top were made separately (three curved pieces) and attached after the top was shaped.
The curved supports for the top were made from glued laminations of thin walnut strips. This provides extra knee room when
seated on the stools (not shown). The supports are strong enough for me to sit on with my 190 lbs.
A matching walnut counter top was also made for a small area off the kitchen.
